Technical TheatreBRAND NEW FOR SUMMER 2012
Theatrical Design and Applied Artistic Technology Dive behind the scenes of theatrical design and construction and learn how to take the words off the page and turn them into a visual feast for the eyes on stage. This five-week program will teach students the key components of theatrical design. Running simultaneously with the highly successful Valley Christian Summer Theatre Program, this camp will use the production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to provide in depth instruction in all aspects of technical theatre from design to construction to implementation. Mornings will focus on design fundamentals, basic techniques, and theory, while after a lunch break, the afternoon will be devoted to practical application and execution of these techniques. Students will have the opportunity to work with wood, metal, clay, fabric, and plastic as we cut, carve, sculpt, paint, weld, sew, and cast the various set pieces, costumes, and props for Beauty and the Beast. In addition, students will get hands-on experience with professional quality lighting, sound, and rigging equipment in Valley Christian High School’s state-of-the-art theatre facility. The program will culminate in students actively participating in the performances of Beauty and the Beast learning to perform to industry standards in jobs as Running Crew, Stage Technician, Lighting and Sound Operator, Stage Management, and more.
